Curtin Dubai’s Engineering students visit leading enterprises

Exposure to professional engineering practice (EPEP) is an important part of our student’s development as a graduate engineer; Curtin students will accumulate 480 hours of EPEP over the duration of their honours degree. A mixture of experiences and activities – paid and unpaid, engineering and non-engineering, in Dubai and international – are recognised and encouraged. Their EPEP include engineering vacation work, part-time jobs, site visits, technical presentations, volunteering and professional development. EPEP provides an insight into industry and complements their formal studies. Engineering students at Curtin are encouraged to reflect on the link between their EPEP and what they learn in their degree program.

During the term, Curtin Dubai’s School of Engineering students, led by Head of School and industry expert Dr Pon Selvan, visited LIN SCAN Advanced Pipelines and Tanks Services in Sharjah to experience in-line inspection, repair activities, and other related services for oil and gas industries. Students visited Intel’s Internet of Things (IoT) Ignition Lab located in Dubai Silicon Oasis to learn about the various IoT solutions that have been developed by Intel. They also attended the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition – WETEX 2018 to explore the latest advancements in sustainable energy and its technology.
