Curtin University has been ranked the eighth university in Australia in the highly competitive 2019 Nature Index released today.
The annual results showed Curtin achieved an international academic ranking of 321 among the world’s top academic institutions, placing the University in Australia’s top eight universities.
The 2019 Nature Index measures the number of scientific papers published in 82 leading journals across the research areas of life science, physical sciences, earth and environmental sciences, and chemistry.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the latest results were testament to Curtin’s commitment to produce world-class research that is making a real difference.
“The Nature Index examines the high-quality research output of universities across the world and I am absolutely thrilled that Curtin has achieved a national academic ranking among Australia’s top eight universities,” Professor Terry said.
“The University has now achieved a global academic ranking of 321, positioning Curtin among the world’s best research institutions and continuing our rapid rise in prestigious international rankings.”
Curtin achieved a significant improvement in the volume of quality research being published in the earth and environmental sciences, recording a 30 per cent increase in published articles.
The Nature Index 2019 Annual Tables highlight the institutions and countries that dominated research in the natural sciences in 2018.
In the National Taiwan University rankings, which were also released today, Curtin’s global ranking improved to 277, up 19 places, with a national ranking of ninth in Australia.
In addition, Curtin ranked 230th in the world this week on the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR).

- Curtin has risen to 230th in the world and 13th nationally in the QS World University Rankings 2020

- Curtin University is #14 in 2019 League Table of the top 50 Universities in Oceania.
- Curtin is ranked 18th in Australia and 301-350th in the world university ranking 2019 as per Times Higher education.
- In the QSWUR by Subject, Curtin has 15 subjects ranked in the Top 200 worldwide.
Curtin University is licensed and permitted by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). All academic qualifications granted by Curtin University and certified by KHDA are recognised in the emirate of Dubai by all private and public entities for all purposes. Curtin University, like all other KHDA licensed universities, will be eligible for KHDA’s Higher Education Classification after its campus in Dubai has graduated a cohort.
